The OSCE was a great opportunity to feel comfortable and confident with skills such as intermittent catheterization, suctioning, and trach care. I feel that because these skills were tested, it pushed other students and me to review and practice frequently. To review, I would look over the Elsevier checklists and watch the videos. To practice, I would use a glass bottle that acted as my orifice for the various concepts; each attempt was rehearsed as if it were a true patient. I joined a study day to practice as a group, teach each other, and correct any issues we saw. By doing so, I became comfortable with the skill and was able to pass my OSCE on intermittent catheterization of a female patient. Although I did not have the opportunity during this clinical to try these skills in a real-life scenario, I feel prepared and confident for when the opportunity arises. These skills will be highly applicable for my future nursing career.
